Wednesday Special Treat: Christine Sun Kim

A brilliant, magical and unique short by cult photographer and filmmaker Todd Selby, "Christine Sun Kim A Selby Film" reveals portrait of performance artist Christine Sun Kim, deaf from birth, who uses sound as a medium : "Listen with your eyes, not just with your ears." A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

Mid-week special treat : Go Forth!

Completely, deeply, madly, fell in love with this beautiful Levi's brand spot from Wieden et Kennedy agency and directed by Ralf Schmerberg, and based on Charles Bukowski's "The laughing hearts" poem (see the beautiful poem text below). This sure beats the mid week blues! Powerful!

The Laughing Hearts

"your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you."

- Charles Bukowski

Sunday Treat

I am a big fan of Scott Schuman's work, the man behind the Sartorialist blog - a blog dedicated to showing the real fashion worn by real people around the world - as opposed to glossy paper and "photoshopped" images on fashion magazines... This is a great documentary about Scott and his work. Brilliant!

Growing is forever

I woke up this morning and enjoyed my cup of coffee while watching this beautiful Vimeo video. This ode to nature is an absolute gem made by Jesse Rosten and written by Kallie Markle entitled "Growing is Forever". Just so beautiful... I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Is your house clean?

Have you cleaned your carpet today? Are you sure??
This fantastic ad spot from renowned advertising agency Young & Rubicam New York makes you look at vacuuming and invisible germs in a whole new way. This reminds me why I majored in advertising. This is pure genius artwork. That being said, I have to leave you.... on my way to vaccuming my kids' rooms! Xo, Si-

Saturday's Special Treat

Major crush for the new Hermes ad campaign. The giant luxury brand presents its umbrella collection with an ad film directed by Alexis Milant and entitled "Fingerskate".
I have the greatest respect for top established international luxury brands that constantly reinvent themselves and don't get stuck in their conservative luxury world/ bubble... Here Hermes celebrates street skating as an art expression. And a true art it is indeed. This is simply brilliant!

Influencers

Ever heard about or read the book called "The Tipping Point" from author Malcolm Gladwell ? Tipping Point is the biography of an idea, a rather simple idea : ideas, products, messages, and behaviors spread just like viruses do.

Influencers is a documentary film that shows and explains how tendencies and creativity become contagious in fashion, design and music. This 13-minute-long documentary, directed by Paul Rojanthara and Davis Johnson is a pure chef d'oeuvre and highly educational. Concept by Creative R+I.

My Holiday Shopping Black List

While in France, I was so shocked to learn about the Guerlain story. Have you heard? I know this blog is mainly about interior design, but stories like that make me so sick in my stomach, I have to vent...

Here is the pitch for those of you who haven't heard or read about it :
Jean-Paul Guerlain, 73, a descendent of the perfume house's founder, yes, THE famous Guerlain brand, was interviewed on French state TV last week, and asked about the creation of a new perfume, Samsara. He replied: "I worked like a nigger... I don't know if niggers have ever worked that hard, anyway."
:-(

via AFP
Dozens of protesters wearing black crowded the sidewalk Saturday outside the Guerlain boutique in
Paris, France, calling for a boycott of the cosmetics company following racist remarks. The company is even said to be on the verge of a civil law suit.

Mr Guerlain, this one is for ya! I sure know that any Guerlain product will be blacklisted from my Christmas wish/ shopping list! Hell, I am even throwing my fabulous Terracotta powder in the trash can. Peace, Si-

Talking Tree

An excellent initiative : Talking Tree is a 100-year-old tree located at Brussels, which is now equipped with various sensors measuring the way in which it feels every day. Through a software, this equipment measures and translates its living conditions into human language. You can follow the life of the talking tree via YouTube, Flickr and Soundcloud. And friend him on Facebook.
Brilliant!
