when I grow up - an art collection

At dinner yesterday I was asked whose work I would choose if I could have any painting to hang in my home.   A difficult question,  I wanted several.   Having established that I wouldn't be allowed a Basquiat, a Pollock, a Hopper, a Turner ....... 

 ..... the conversation reminded me how much I would love to possess a painting by the impressionist artist Berthe Morisot.   (Don't get excited - this is NOT going to happen!)   Contemporary to the great names of the movement and wife to Edward Manet, there is a lightness of touch to her paintings  and a certain femininity that speaks to me.

And how about you?  Which artist's work do you dream of possessing?

when I grow up - my china cupboard

When I grow up I will have beautiful, well-appointed cupboards;

no mismatched or chipped china;

my wooden boards will never fall on the floor as I try to slide one out from the bottom of the pile of trays, boards and table mats;

I will never find stale or mouldy spices at the back of my untidy shelves;

no one in the kitchen will ever need a plaster because they cut themselves on a sharp knife hidden in the drawer;

and when a kind soul offers to empty my dishwasher I will never hear "I couldn't find anywhere to put this", because every inch of my kitchen will be so totally rational, clear and spacious.

A girl can always dream!

when I grow up - my garden

One day, when I grow up, I will have a perfect garden, where everything is so incredibly perfect and beautiful that I will never muddy my shoes or dirty my fingernails.

 

I will float around, effortlessly finding the time to make ecologically friendly pots for my seedlings

 

My 'nécessaire de jardin' will be kept to hand in a beautiful belt of various sized pockets

My tools will never get rusty, or bent, and they will never ever  -perish the thought -  accidentally land on the compost heap.

My tomatoes will not know the meaning of the words  blight,  undersized, flavourless or ordinary

my pots will be coordinated to the shades of flowers in season which will in turn be coordinated to current fashion

and I will carry a secateur in a perfect gardening bag in case the worst happens and  I come across a stray branch

One day!
