Who doesn't like a little bling
a little ruffle
&
a whole lot of charm?
The office has been ready for a refresh for awhile now.
This months project with Lowes Creative Ideas was all about giving a room a little makeover.
Which was a perfect opportunity to put a little polish on the office
I had already organized the armoire in a previous post & built my little plank desk...
so the rest of the room deserved to be pretty too.
I went to Lowes, got some ideas of what I wanted to do
and started with several gallons of paint for the walls, ceiling and trim.
Choosing paint is never easy for me.
There are so many pretty colors
and variations of colors it's hard to decide.
I knew that I wanted something pale.
Something with just a touch of color
and a soft creamy cottage look.
I chose the color Pale Linen by Valspar.
It is a very soft color with just a hint of blue.
I LOVE it and with the white moulding ~ it is absolutely perfect.
The trim is freshly coated in off the shelf Valspar white
which is the same color I used on the new wainscoting panels I made.
I wanted to give the office a little bit more of a finished feel by adding the wainscoting
on the bottom of the walls.
So I picked up several thin plywood panels,
a nice chair rail moulding
and lots of end cap moulding pieces to create the 'squares'.
A little construction & white paint later...
and the room looked completely different.
There is old embossed wallpaper on the ceiling and
I thought about changing it to bead board but I kind of like the look it has
so just a new coat of white ceiling paint and it was refreshed and pretty.
Of course new lighting was in order and the dainty little pendant light from Lowes was just $39.99
Loved it & it's one of their amazing deals in their New Lower Everyday Prices.
It is perfect for this small room
and the glass and bling add just the right touch of elegance.
For the draperies...
I was thinking something with layered ruffles
of course ;)
I grabbed a couple of my favorite cloth drop cloths from the paint section to make them
and started sewing away.
A simple two tiered ruffle adds a touch of shabby sweetness to the corner windows.
I also found the most darling drapery rods at Lowes with little birds on the ends.
They come in a oiled bronze type finish but you can paint them
any color you would like with a little spray paint-
they are so sweet in cottage white.
A pair of old crusty chippy salvage cupboard doors along side the windows brings a vintage touch.
As well as an antique screen door mounted on the door frame
for a little whimsy.
I am thinking of adding a burlap or fabric panel as well
but kind of liking the open look.
I am loving how everything turned out-
Just a simple refresh in this room but I think it came out so sweet.
It's a perfect little spot to sew and create
or even just for a little daydream on the settee
