I love those darling old antique carts and chests on little wheels.
Especially during the Holidays
all piled high with toys and candy canes
they are so charming.
I designed a little vintage charming cutie with little boards,
metal wheels & shabby paint.
One that was big enough to hold all kinds of stuff
and Mr. FCC and I put it together last week.
What started out looking like this:
Turned into this:
Here's how we made it.
I found 2 packs of the little fence pickets at Lowes in the garden center
and pulled each picket off the thick plastic that created the fence.
Using 1x2' pine boards,
we made a frame for the cart for each the top and the bottom.
This one is about 24" long x 15" wide
We nailed each of the pickets to the 1'x2's
after spacing them very scientifically...
(I used my finger width as the measurement lol!)
That created a frame of pickets.
Next we used 1x4' pine boards placed together to create a plank bottom
and another set of them for the plank top.
I wanted thick rope pulls or handles and those darling little wheels.
In the building materials department at Lowes
I found the little metal wheels for only $3.50 each and bought 2' length of
thick twisted rope for the handles.
I also wanted a shabby old paint color and so off to the paint department where I could have bought
sample after sample of paint they had so many gorgeous colors!
I chose a color called Spruce Frost by Valspar-
love it and the paint goes on nice and creamy.
I left the finish shabby for a more vintage feel.
I love how this little rolling cart or toy chest came out!
Perfect for a charming little side table for a cup of coffee or storing magazines, etc.
Our kids are older and don't really have toys to be stored inside
but this would work well for holding shoes or gym equipment, etc. as well.
I was compensated for this post as a member of the Lowes Creative Ideas Network of Creators and Influencers but the designs and opinions are my own.
